Geometry. A curve defined in the Cartesian plane with the equation y2(y2 − a2) = x2(x2 − b2).
Studied heavily by Gabriel Cramer, the name comes from the juggling game "diabolo" involving two sticks, string, and a spinning prop resembling this curve. And in Italian, "diabolo" also means 'devil'.
